Honor the Memory of Mandy Rice Davis. when listening to the Big 4

Honor The memory of Mandy Rice Davis OR “Audit Leader Verbally Reaffirm Commitment to Audit Quality Since We Couldn’t Tell From Crappy Audits Lately” As I get moving on the mountain of topics on which I have an urge to rant and which will form, so long as laziness does not prevent, future David’s Diatribes I see a need to bring Mandy Rice Davies to the forefront of people’s minds. Ms. Rice Davies was a player in the Profumo case which brought down an ageing, moribund and corrupt British government led by Harold Macmillan aka “supermac” and the First Earl of Stockton Mandy was a high-class lady of the night whose best friend and room-mate , Christine Keeler was dallying at the same time with the Minister of War, the eponymous Profumo of the Profumo affair and a Russian spy. Clearly nothing like that could happen now. In the subsequent court case, a pompous government lawyer said to Mandy, the person denies your allegation. Her response has been recorded as “well he would say that wouldn’t he” and that wording is now official The response has gone into the office dictionary of quotations and slang usage as MRDA (Mandy Rice Davies Applies) to reference a clear preposterous lie and assertion by anyone in power It feels as if we live in an age when MRDA should be in constant use What revived it in my nerdy accountant mind happened to be an article in going concern where a bunch of senior CPA s asserted (they should understand this word) that they were doing good audits. The title of the article was. “Audit Leader Verbally Reaffirm Commitment to Audit Quality Since We Couldn’t Tell From Crappy Audits Lately” What a beautiful example of Mandy. Though she died a couple of years ago she rides again.
